Symbol XR400 RFID reader

Hello! I am now doing a RFID based library project using symbol XR400 RFID reader. I connect the reader using UTP crossover cable with my PC. I am now facing the problem on how to interface the reader with program written. Does it require the software release from Symbol? Or using Winsock?
